Getting multiple concepts before choosing a design company?

So here’s the deal: Me and my partner worked out the name, the financial plan, the story and what our ideal customer looks like. Now we would like to have someone design a style that fits our profile.

I regularly see people posting their portfolios etcetera, with more than decent work. However, I would like to ask people to develop a mood board or even concept before we choose a designer. In the end, the designer would be responsible for:
– Visitor cards
– Packaging
– Website
– Email footer
– Paper communication
– ….

Has anyone ever worked on a conceptual basis with multiple companies? I was thinking that fiver might be a good place to start, but I think the quality of work might not be too good.
